Course Description
Pool Lifeguarding is a fun, flexible and dynamic job. It is also a point of entry for a career in the aquatics industry. The first step in becoming a Pool Lifeguard is getting qualified. The training undertaken ensures that every Lifeguard possesses the skills and knowledge to handle a wide variety of incidents that occur on a day to day basis at aquatic centres.

Course Components include First Aid & Oxygen Delivery, Supervision, Risk Management, Communication, Aquatic Rescues and Emergency Rescues.

The training course is conducted over two days. All candidates are required to successfully complete a range of practical assessments (within time limits) and a theory exam (which includes multiple choice, true/false and short answer questions). Candidates need to be competent in all theory and practical components to successfully complete the award conditions in order to achieve a Statement of Attainment.

Pre-Course Learning
The Pool Lifeguard course is completed via a Blended Delivery format, which allows candidates to work through self-paced theory content, before being assessed across the 2 day workshop.

Online learning must be completed in full prior to attending your 2 day workshop.

  • Pre-course learning: Self-paced online modules (approximately 6 hours)
  • On-course: 2 Days (16 Hours) face to face learning and assessment

Candidates are required to bring:
  • Swimwear
  • Towels, goggles (if preferred)
  • Lunch (some venues may have options to buy food)
  • Writing Material (including pens)

Outcomes
To achieve a Statement of Attainment, candidates must successfully complete the practical components under the award conditions.

Upon successful course completion of the course participants will be issued with a Nationally Recognised Training certificate (Statement of Attainment), consisting of the following units:

Units making up the SISSS00133 - Pool Lifeguard Skillset
  • HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid

Post Course

This On-the-job assessment ensures the Pool Lifeguard has completed a venue induction process and is able to apply the skills learnt in the training course at their place of employment.
